The Plan

We grew up differently; you and I.
But the general plan is the same.

Go to school, get a job, get married, have kids and die.

You never had this hard of a time.
Times have changed, it’s apples and oranges.

You never said the plan was easy…
You better make Mom and Dad proud!

No matter where I turn, I am always stuck.
You have to stick to the plan at all costs.

I don’t need to win I just need to get by.
All these kids know is participation medals; it’s never about work.

So what do we do, how do we live?
Doesn’t matter to me, just don’t fuck it up for the next generation.

But how can we ruin something that was ruined before we got here?
We were too busy paving the way for you ungrateful brats.

So what do you want from us?
Someone to take care of us, can’t you see we’re getting old?

Now you need us, how the tables have turned.
Too bad we can’t get jobs with the degrees that we’ve earned.
We stuck to your plan until it almost killed us.
We couldn’t do it our way; you put up a fuss.
Times have changed, of that you were right.
If the next generation is fucked, we did it out of spite.
We were left with rubble and told to turn it to gold.
We could have found a way out if we hadn’t done what we were told.
But we were scared and we believed you.
It isn’t all our fault, but you act like you don’t have a clue.
We grew up differently; in the way we began.
But now we say goodbye, you’re at the end of the plan.
